General Sir Thomas Gage, like George Washington, fought in the Battle of the Monongahela (Braddock’s Defeat) during the French & Indian War. Later, as governor of Massachusetts Colony, his enforcement of the "Intolerable Acts" helped spur the colonists to rebellion. It was Gage who ordered troops to Lexington and Concord, where the revolution began.
