At the Battle of Sheriffmuir, November 13, 1715, the Highland Jacobite army of the Earl of Mar was fought to a standstill by a much smaller government force under the Duke of Argyll. The result so disheartened the Jacobite army that the cause and the army just faded away in the next few months.
