The Battle of Perryville, Kentucky, resulted when Union and Confederate soldiers ran into each other while seeking water in Doctor’s Creek, also called Doctor’s Fork Creek, during the dry month of October 1862. After a full day of fighting on October 8 in which combined casualties totaled over 7,500, Union troops withdrew, leaving the Southerners in control of the water.
