Land mine. During the war between the Nigerian government and separatists fighting to establish the independent Republic of Biafra in the 1960s, Biafrans frequently buried old kettles filled with explosives and scrap metal to create electronically detonated mines that they called Ogbunigwe (destroyer of all) or Ojukwu’s Kettle. The simple devices caused serious morale problems in addition to the casualties they inflicted. The nickname was a reference to Gen. Chukuemeka Odemegwo Ojukwu, Biafra’s head of state.
