Braddock’s Road. During the French & Indian War, British General Edward Braddock led a military force 2,100 strong with their supplies and accouterments through 100 miles of rugged mountain wilderness to capture Ft. Dusquesne (present-day Pittsburgh). The road his men cut became known as Braddock’s Road. Sadly for the general, the battle that was fought when he neared his destination is remembered as Braddock’s Defeat. He was mortally wounded, and his men buried him in the road to hide his grave from the enemy.
