Vasco de Gama
Vasco de Gama (ca. 1460-1524) was a Portuguese explorer. His first voyage to the Indian Ocean (1497-1499) combined exploration with piracy, the Portuguese preying on Arab merchant ships. Gama was able to establish a trading post in India and made two more voyages there before his death at the city of Cochin on Christmas Eve 1524.
