Imhotep served the pharaoh Djoser (roughly 2700-2649 BC). His titles included Seal bearer of the King, First after the King of Upper Egypt, Administrator of the Palace, Builder and High Priest of Heliopolis, among others. He designed Egypt’s first pyramid, the Step Pyramid at Saqqara. He also served as court physician and priest and was believed by many to have magical powers. About 2,000 years after his death Egyptians began to worship him as a god.
