Manassas. The Manassas was the Confederacy’s first operational ironclad. Originally a New England tugboat called the Enoch Train, the ship was refit with iron sheathing and an iron prow for ramming. The underpowered ship was used in defense of New Orleans in 1861, finally being dispatched by the Union warship Mississippi.
