Romania. The Iron Guard was committed to the “Christian and racial” renovation of Romania. This Fascist organization, which fed on anti-Semitism and mystical nationalism, was a major social and political force in Romania between 1930 and 1941. The organization was originally formed in 1927 as the Legion of the Archangel Michael. It was finally destroyed when in 1941 it staged a revolt against the government of General Ion Antonescu.
