Charles G. Dawes. American vice president Charles Gates Dawes was awarded the 1925 Nobel Peace Prize along with Sir Austen Chamberlin. Dawes, vice president to Calvin Coolidge from 1925-1929, was the chief author of the 1923 Dawes Plan for German financial reconstruction after the First World War. Dawes, who was born in 1885 in Marietta, Ohio, was named the first director of the U.S. Bureau of the Budget in 1921 and was ambassador to Great Britain from 1929-32. Dawes died in 1951.
