Born under the name Ehrich Weiss, he went on to become famous by the name of Harry Houdini. Born in Hungary in 1874, young Ehrich Weiss emigrated with his parents to New York and then to Wisconsin. Sometime around 1891 he and a partner in a magic act billed themselves as the Brothers Houdini, in homage to French magician Eug?ne Robert-Houdin. As Harry Houdini, Weiss became world-famous for his mind-boggling escapes.
