In addition to being an Irish Revolutionary leader and Union commander in the Civil War, Thomas Francis Meagher was appointed secretary of the Montana Territory in 1865. During the Civil War, he organized the Irish Brigade of New York (1861?62) as well as fought with the famous 69th Regiment at the first battle of Bull Run.
