The 20th-century African leader, Haile Selassie, has a religion named after him and is worshipped as the savior. The last emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie was born of royal blood and originally named Ras Tafari, and is regarded as the savior by a religious sect originating in Jamaica whose members are called Rastafarians. Crowned emperor in 1930 under the title Haile Selassie I (meaning "Power of the Trinity?), he was by tradition a descendant of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. He reigned as emperor of Ethiopia until 1974 and died in 1975.
