Alice Lee Roosevelt
As independent, outspoken and mischievous as she was beautiful, 18-year-old Alice Lee Roosevelt posed for this portrait in 1902. Daughter of President Theodore Roosevelt and wife of powerful Speaker of the House Nicholas Longworth, she would become the grande dame of Washington society. Alice had come to know every president from Benjamin Harrison to Gerald Ford by the time she died in 1980 at the age of 96.
