Wings: London Blitz to Pearl Harbor, Maris Multimedia, Discovery Channel Multimedia, Bethesda, Md., 1997, $39.95.
Wings: London Blitz to Pearl Harbor, is the latest installment in the Discovery Channel’s Wings series. Wings: London Blitz to Pearl Harbor fills in the early World War II gap, from 1939 to 1942, left open by Wings: Midway to Hiroshima, which covered military aviation from 1942 to 1945.
Like its forebears, the newest Wings title collects a load of educational military aircraft data and historical matter into a multimedia program. The series’ consistent interface, the reasonably thorough aircraft database, and the quality artwork that fill each package rank high.
This CD-ROM’s material parallels closely that of its predecessors, which may diminish the value of the product in the eyes of less enthused users. For those who enjoyed the past entries in the Wings CD-ROM series, however, Wings: London Blitz to Pearl Harbor is recommended. The fine artwork and multimedia history offered here match the quality of previous installments and give history a face and a voice the whole family can enjoy.
