Flying Corps Gold, Empire Enteractive, $40.
The World War I flight simulator we were impressed with in the November 1997 Aviation History is back with an update. Along with some bug fixes in Flying Corps Gold (from Empire Enteractive, $40) are new enhancements, like the inclusion of the Fokker D-VII, missing in the original release. Sadly, the lovely reprint of “Practical Flying” from 1918 is not included, but the colorful terrain maps do come with this version.
Compilations like Flying Corps Gold have a value hurdle to overcome: Should a user purchase the upgrade if he or she owns the original? In this case, owners of the original receive little new content for the price, and should probably only consider it if they are enthusiasts of the D-VII. But for those interested in World War I simulation who have yet to try Flying Corps, this is a worthy purchase.
