CHAPTER TWO
New to London is Chapter Two, a Neil Simon play with more New York cracks than a Manhattan sidewalk. Just bereaved George (Tom Conti) gets caught up in a fresh affair with newly separated Jennie (Sharon Gless).Simon went through emotional readjustment in his own life, and true to his profession he has turned his pain into a play.
The pair experience well-meaning attempts by friends and relations to get them rehooked into the love-rug; they then gothrough a telephone tango of calls that ring with laughs. She is a beauty with a Manhattan husk of a voice, while Conti with thelugubrious look of a man permanently under a rain cloud gives an eccentric, original portrayal. Yet despite this and theclod-hopping antics of the friendly fixers, miraculously they make it. It’s at the Gielgud.
