Tarzan. Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan, has appeared in over 25 books and numerous other media. In 1919 Burroughs bought a large ranch near Los Angeles, which he named Tarzana Ranch. In 1927, the town surrounding the ranch voted to incorporate as the City of Tarzana.
