A War Remembered: The Vietnam War Summit at the LBJ Presidential Library, Mark K. Updegrove, Tower Books, 2017, $39.95
“It’s all here, the story of our time–with the bark off,” former president Lyndon B. Johnson declared at the opening of the LBJ Presidential Library in May 1971. In opening the LBJ Library, Johnson strove to provide an unvarnished look at his administrations triumphs as well as its failures–predominately the examination of the Vietnam War. In April 2016, in keeping in line with the library’s objectives, a three-day conference brought together scholars, photographers, policy makers, reporters, and soldiers for the Vietnam War Summit. A War Remembered features not only photographs from this conference, but a series of historic photographs that highlight the complexities and trauma of the Vietnam War.
