Author Mikesh flew the B-57 during a 15-year period, logging more than 2,000 hours in it prior to becoming a curator for the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., in 1970. He has had a love affair with the B-57 since he first saw one in 1949, and wrote an earlier and now out-of-print book about it in 1980.

This present book is a reissue and an expansion that allowed the author to add many details that had to be left out of the original and to add more to the story of the airplane. Martin B-57 Canberra covers all aspects of the 28 years the adopted British airplane was in service, in the Korean War and later in the Vietnam War. It is filled with many rare action photographs of the airplane both in color and in black and white.

Expanded appendices contain many historical points such as units and time periods of assignments, production records, and line entries for the history of each aircraft.
