Strauss had already developed a material that was both tough and comfortable to wear when Reno, Nevada, tailor Davis came up with the idea of riveted pants and partnered with Straus. The fastening studs could reinforce the stress points of pockets and seams, keeping the denim material from tearing and making the modern blue jean pants possible.
