The Great Exhibition, organized by Prince Albert and Henry Cole and held in London May 1 – October 15, 1851. It is also known as the?Crystal Palace Exhibition in reference to the large glass and cast iron structure that housed the exhibition in Hyde Park. Other exhibitions preceded it, such as the French Industrial Exposition of 1844, but the Great Exhibition was the first one open to international exhibitors.
