Texas. The 36th Infantry Division had been created for WWI from Texas and Oklahoma National Guard units. Between the World Wars, the Oklahoma units were moved into the 45th Infantry Division and the 36th became an "all Texas" unit. When it landed in Italy in 1943 it gained the distinction of being the first US Division on continental Europe.
