Another of Darling’s photos shows how closely the elements of the 324th were layered during the mission, which was intended to destroy the Skoda armaments plant. In the photo, the B-17G nearest Darling’s was nicknamed “Little Miss Mischief.” The fortress suffered significant damage on a raid on Cologne and had extensive repairs including having an entire rear fuselage (in green camoflage) grafted onto the rest of the bomber (in natural metal).
