Besides a lance rest for jousting, this South German armor from the 1500s (left) also features a helmet with a theatrical visor to allow a wearer to duel in character; ornate etchings, such as these made by a master craftsman in Augsburg (right), lent extra glamor to tournament armor worn by wealthy aristocrats.
