Dear Mr. History,

My father fought in the Aleutian Islands during WW2. I have spent the last 5 years trying to find out what unit he was with.

He arrived on June 2, 1942, at Dutch Harbor and left Kiska in Sept ’43.

Do you have any idea as to which units were serving at Dutch Harbor on June 3, 1942, from the Army?

Thank you,
Gary Lee

Funny how orders of battle for the Japanese raid usually center on sea and air units and neglect the Army ground forces At Dutch Harbor.  Nevertheless, it didn’t take me long to find the following elements stationed there as of June 3, 1942:

37th Infantry Regiment

206th Coastal Artillery, Arkansas Army National Guard, including one radar, a searchlight battery, six anti-aircraft batteries (3-inch M1918 guns and M2 .50-caliber machine guns).

Sincerely,
