In Mainz, Germany, March 1455, the information age of medieval Europe begins with Johannes Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press. Using a combination of moveable type and oil-based ink, Gutenberg is able to print and quickly mass-produce the Bible at a fraction of its previous cost, allowing people easier access to literature in their homes.
