1st Marine Regiment. The unit was formed on Nov. 27, 1913, as the 2nd Advance Base Regiment. It fought in Caribbean campaigns until 1925. It was redesignated 1st Regiment in 1916 and the 1st Marines on July 10, 1930. Assigned to the new 1st Marine Division in early 1941, the regiment was in the World War II battles of Guadalcanal and Okinawa. In Korea it fought at Inchon and Chosin Reservoir.
