Bf 109E-3 W.Nr. 1184 flown by Oblt. Wilhelm Fronhoefer of 9./JG 26 was shot down by P/O C.F. Gray of No. 54 Squadron during a bomber escort sortie to Hornchurch on August 31, 1940. Fronhoefer crash-landed at Ulcombe in Kent and was captured unhurt.
