Bolívar’s efforts to recruit British combat veterans of the Napoléonic Wars were extraordinarily successful, attracting sharpshooters, foot soldiers and mounted troops. Many of the latter were ultimately assigned to the 1st and 2nd Venezuelan Hussars. (Museo Nacional de Colombia)
