Pickett invented “bulldogging” as a means of controlling a steer for branding. His method was to grab a steer by the horns, twist its head and wrestle it to the ground. If it proved stubborn, Pickett would bite the steer on the lip, a technique that has since gone by the wayside, mercifully for both bulldogger and animal. (Heritage Auctions)
