Members of Captain Albert G. Mack’s 18th Independent Battery, New York Light Artillery, pose with a Billinghurst-Requa in their hometown of Rochester. Mack was a friend of Requa, and encouraged him to develop the fieldpiece. The battery was raised in 1862 and known as the “Black Horse Battery” because of its dark steeds. (Cowan’s Auctions)
