THE AMERICAN FRIENDS OF THE BRITISH MUSEUM The American Friends of the British Museum was established in 1989 as a not-for-profit educational organization, whose principal purpose is supporting the British Museum. Through a variety of events and programmes, American Friends of the British Museum aims to gain visibility for the British Museum and attract new donors as the museum moves towards its 250th anniversary in the year 2003. Events such as ‘Meet the Scholar’ provide an opportunity for American Friends to meet with distinguished museum staff and discuss exhibitions travelling from the British Museum to the United States. A young people’s education project is in the works, and future plans call for increased corporate participation, an annual gala dinner and group tours to the museum with behind-the-scenes privileges. Contributions to the American Friends of the British Museum, Inc. are tax deductible. For further information, contact the Friends at 575 Lexington Avenue, Suite 410, New York, NY 01122, tel. 212-572-8323.
