Mountain-man John Johnson got this nickname during his feud with the Crow tribe.
“Liver-Eating”. Johnson married a Flathead Indian woman, who was killed by a Crow brave. Johnson then purportedly killed more than 300 Crows and ate their livers in revenge for his wife’s murder.
