Edmonia Lewis whose father was African-American and whose mother was part Native-American. “The Arrow Maker” depicts a father teaching his daughter arrow making. “Forever Free” shows an African-American man and woman escaping from slavery. Lewis was also acclaimed for her busts of Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Ulysses Grant and black Civil War hero Colonel Robert Shaw.
