A small group of Vietnam vets joined a film production crew as “interns” last summer to help edit hours of never-before-seen film footage that was used in the six-part TV series Vietnam in HD, which aired on History Nov. 8-10 (click here to read Vietnam magazine’s post about Vietnam in HD). The film, produced by Lou Reda Productions, is a follow-up to WWII in HD, which was a 2009 Emmy winner.
“We wanted to make it as real as possible,” said managing director Scott Reda. “[The veterans] bring a level of understanding because they went through it.”
The star of the TV show Dexter, Michael C. Hall, was selected to narrate the film, which featured the first-person accounts of 13 individuals, including veterans Arthur Wiknik, Charles Brown, Karl Marlantes, author of Matterhorn and What It Is Like to Go to War, and reporter Joe Galloway, co-author with Hal Moore of We Were Soldiers Once…and Young.
