Bob Feller, Cleveland Indians pitching phenom, became the first American profession athlete to enlist in World War II. Two days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Feller volunteered for the U.S. Navy, seeing combat during Operation Galvanic, Operation Flintlock, and in the Battle of the Philippine Sea.
