Butch O’Hare. As a Navy pilot during World War II, he shot down five Japanese bombers and damaged a sixth two months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Killed in combat in 1943 when he was 29, O’Hare was awarded the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. He left behind a wife and a nine-month-old daughter. O’Hare International Airport is Chicago’s largest airport.
