Meriwether Lewis who died at age 35 of gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen at a remote inn along the Natchez Trace (trail) in Tennessee. By the time he died, Lewis was an alcoholic and very depressed. He had attempted suicide several times before. His friends assumed he succeeded at the inn. His mother and many today, maintain it was murder.
