The bloodless 1838-1839 Aroostook War was a dispute over a border between these two countries.
United States and Canada between Maine and New Brunswick. Congress dispatched General Winfred Scott to the disputed area. He negotiated with Sir John Harvey of Britain for peaceful cohabitation of the territory until a permanent agreement could be reached. In 1842, the Webster-Ashburton Treaty determined the boundary.
