Question on Pharaoh’s Cigar Coin

Hi

We have found a very old coin. On the front it has Payne Pharoah cigars. On the back is a calendar. You can spin it to line up dates. It is dated 1907 to 1927.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Carolyn

Dear Carolyn,

The attached auction bulletin might have the answer. Your “calendar” is an example of an advertising premium that came with the item you bought—in this case Payne’s Pharaoh Cigars. As you can see, it was not the only “free gift” of its time. The three-coin lot shown here sold for a total of $110, so what you have might be of some value in an Antiques Roadshow sort of way.
