Helen Keller
Helen Keller, American author, activist, and lecturer, was born on June 27, 1880. Keller was blind and deaf from an undiagnosed illness at the age of two. In 1887, Keller was put under the care of Anne Sullivan who remained her teacher and companion until Sullivan?s death in 1936. Helen Keller made rapid progress as a pupil and graduated in 1904 with honors from Radcliffe. Keller lectured all over America, as well as in Europe and Asia, to raise funds for the training of the blind and to promote other social causes. She died in 1968.
