General Pershing
General John Joseph Pershing poses with a horse in 1920. Pershing rose to military fame for leading the Mexican Punitive Expedition (1916-1917), commanding the American Expeditionary Forces in France in World War I (1917-1919), and serving as chief of staff of the United States Army (July 1921- September 1924). He retired from active service in September 1924.
