Augustus Hazard House Gunpowder magnate Augustus G. Hazard lived in the Italianate home in Enfield, Conn., pictured above. It burned in 1969. Two members of the Beach family died in the July 1862 explosion at Hazard’s factory. The death of 40-year-old Arthur left seven children without a father. A boulder flung in the air by the blast killed his younger brother James.
