I have a question.

Why was Wyatt Earp described as a bad man in newspapers?

What do they mean when they call him a bad man, or anyone back then?

Wyatt Earp never said that "Turkey Creek Jack" Johnson's real name was John Blount.

Stuart Lake made up Turkey Creek Jack Johnson. Newspapers just described him as a man named Johnson, if they named him at all. Earp just knew of some of the Blunt brothers probably from newspapers that described the drunken street riot in Missouri.

The Blount brothers were not notorious as Peter Brand claims on his website, it's just false theory. However, Bud Blunt was described as somewhat notorious. He was really just a town drunk that got into trouble a lot. His brother John Blunt bailed him out a few times with a plea of mercy.

It is possible that this guy was "Turkey Creek Jack" Johnson, but either way, John Wlliam Blount was not a gunman in the least. Bud Blunt (that's how he always spelled his name) was basically a two - bit outlaw, or for lack of better terms, a "wannabe".

Their was a gunman named Jack Johnson in Nebraska, who was a marshal and he shot and killed Mike Fitzgerald who had murdered a preacher named Holliday. Their was a man named John P. Johnson on the 1880 Census, living in the vicintiy of Tombstone, Arizona Territory. He was about 50 years old and he was a carpenter.

Wyatt Earp claimed he used Johnson as an informer, or a "stool pigeon".

I have a cabinet photo of Virgil Earp. The picture was purchased in Cottonwood. The photo was taken by Waldron and Wilson Studio in Marion, Ohio. Virgil was married in Marion and later moved back to the area with his wife for a short time. This photo was taken before the Tombstone incident, Wyatt Earp, was roughly 24 years old when he left the Union Army. He married while still in Marion left and came back briefly before heading out West. I would be happy to email a copy of photo to you

For the following question please ignore the name John Wilson Vermillion.

Question: Do you believe "Texas Jack" Vermillion and "Shoot-Your-Eye-Out-Jack" Vermillion are the same person?

Dear Peter

John "Shoot-Your-Eye-Out-Jack" Vermillion is listed along with other members of the Soapy Smith gang in various contemporary newspapers, including the Rocky Mountain News of 1889.

Dear Jeff

To date, no one has actually proved that John Wilson Vermillion
was "Texas Jack". In the article I state that most current
researchers believe John Wilson to be the man. However, John
Wilson Vermillion was at home in Mendota raising a family and
running a farm when Shoot Your Eye Out Jack was with Soapy
Smith in Denver in 1889.

For a much longer discussion on John Wilson Vermillion, try
going to my website www.tombstonevendetta.com

Cheers

Regarding John Wilson ("Texas Jack" and later as "Shoot-Your-Eye-Out-Jack") Vermillion: I do not recall ever hearing his family say he had been a law man in Missouri. I do know that in 1888 Vermillion joined up with the Soapy Smith bunco gang in Denver, Colorado as a capper (shill). He was involved
with Soapy in the shoot-out at the train station in Pocatello, Idaho in August 1889. Not exactly law-abiding.
