Hi everyone - I loved the article. This period of WWII interests me because my Grandad, Topper Brown, was in the desert for much of this time, as part of the Eighth army. I am currently editing his memoirs for publication soon. Please visit this Facebook page for more info on the Desert War and the ordinary soldiers' day to day routine etc.

My father's records burned at St. Louis, Missouri.
I have been trying for years to get information on his
Unit. He left Ft. Bliss, Texas in 1942.
His name: Domitilio Garcia from Santa Fe, New Mexico.
He was involved in the North African Campaign that moved
to Scicily, Naples, the Italian Coast on to Rome and I believe
Florence. I just found a bracelet with these places etched
on the places. I remember post cards from the Cairo...perhaps
Alexandria areas. He was a Medic in the Army-Air Force from
1942-1943. He flew in an airplane giving aid to the wounded
soldiers. I would like to follow his Route. I am approaching
seventy-five and the window is closing.
I remember that he told the story of going behind the lines to places
like Spanish Morocco and maybe Casa Blanca...forbidden places.
If he was in these places, he would have perhaps been through
Libya and Algeria from Cairo and Alexandria.
Does anyone have any information of this American Unit?
In forever appreciation if I could hear from you.

Mary Louise F. Garcia
Byrd is my married name
Clokey for my Mother: Rose
Gurule for my Grandmothers on both my father's side and my mother's side.

Hi, the information is great! I would just strongly recommend you have subtitles so readers can easily find what information they want without reading the whole thing.

Hello,
My father was in Tunisa in 1943 and fought across to Italy and beyond. I have been trying to locate any records that will help me trace his foot steps. I have a copy of his discharge papers so I have some dates. He was a scott for battery C 451 Anti aircraft warning battalion. Can anyone point me in a direction to help create his travels. My Father was Robert White from Flushing LI, New York.

Interesting explanation of the strategy and players. I am looking for information about what it was like to be a soldier at the Canastel replacement depot in Oran, Algeria. Some where there 4 - 6 weeks; do you have any idea what they did till they were needed? Thank you.

My father arrived Casablanca in April 1943 with 425th Combat Engineer Dump Truck Company, Cpt. Marshall Edwin Pruett. If anyone knew him or this company, please contact me. They went on to Italy in about October 1943.
