The man with the sword is Jerry Giarritano. He is from Pueblo Colorado. After the war he made little mention of the photo or the role he played in making it. I asked him if he was a hero....."No but I served with an entire squad of them" -

Great article! Can anyone identify the soldier holding a sword standing next to James Flanagan?

My Uncle Floyd Workman jumped with the 502nd of the 101st on
D-Day and some of our family thinks the soldier with the sword
may be Floyd Workman.

i was in normandy 2 weeks ago and met the guy standing far right of that famous picture at the marmion farm. his name is jack dixon and was part of a 101st. he was french canadian and didnt have much engl;ish but was so proud just to have met him and have my picture taken with him. so much so that i was tryin to find the picture itself on the net so that i could frame it for my home ireland....hence i happened upon this site.

I have found my dad's discharge papers and found that he was from the 327th Engineers group. He was a surgical tech. His name was Albert A. Cramer. Does anyone remember him?
Thank you,
Charlotte Cramer Martins
