There are several books out about Anzio. One that might be of interest is "The Rock of Anzio" by Flint Whitlock. It covers from Sicily to Dachau A History of the US 45th Infantry Division. There are many details about the 45th infantry division. In addition, there are several other books/paperbacks about the 45th that you can research that include the 127th that might help you out. The Military & Discovery Channel has had several live movies about Anzio and the 45th, they might be a resource too. Another online idea is Ancestry.com for Military records. Finding guys that served in the unit are rare but some are out there and might be a resource. If you live near a VA Hospital there are still a bunch of guys from WWII that are in the senior homes or are patients. I have often found them very friendly to talk with about their service. With most of the paper records burned in St. Louis in 1973 it is tough to find more details. Hope this might be of some help.

My dad Anthony G. Petraitis served under the 45th under Lt. Gen. Mark Clark in Cannon Co. 179th Infantry from 12 Feb 1944 till 28 Dec 1945. He passed in 1966 and never spoke about his military service let alone his Bronze Star. Unfortunately all his records were burned in the 1973 fire in St. Louis where military records were kept and he only told me he was at Anzio but no more. I have numerous pictures of him and others during his tour. I requested his metals and DD214 from TACOM in Philadelphia, Pa. What a shock when I received all his awards.

My question to you or someone you may forward to is what can you tell be about the Bronze Star Attachment (Quadruple) & Arrowhead medal that he received but never talked about??

And last where might I find the correct order to display his medals and ribbons with his burial flag in a shadow box?

Kindest regards,
Anthony E. Petraitis

This site is confusing at times but if you pay attention and read over the information multiple times, it becomes more clear to understand.
