Jane,
Don't know if my dad mentioned your brother or not. He may have and it was so long ago that I don't remember. You know those guys had a very tough battle there and were lucky to survive it from what I've read and been told. The 12th. aromored was quite the group. They were known as the mystery division at times.

Peter,
My dad was a SSgt in 56th AIB at Herrlisheim. Do you have any photographs of the the 56th AIB that you would be willing to share. I've been searching and have not been very successful in pictures of his unit.
My dad's deceased also, and I'm planning a trip soon with my son to Herrlisheim. Thanks for anything you can provide.

My father was in the 43rd. tank batt. company a. He was a tank driver. Right in the heart of that battle.
He was one of the lucky ones who made it out. I remember the stories that he would tell when I was younger.

My uncle Lee Paschal from NC was in Company A 119th Armor Eng BN. He was Corporal. He was wounded during battle but I do not know what battle it was. I had no idea that the 119th played a part in this battle. I have always wanted to find out more about this unit and their part in the war. If anyone has any info on Company A 119th Armor Eng BN please let me know. Great to know the history of our brave men.

My dad, too, fought at Herrlisheim. He was in the 56th Armored Infantry, was wounded, and always said they referred to that battle as the "Little Battle of the Bulge." He's deceased now, but he was full of Herrlisheim stories both horrifying and amusing.

I was just reading a book published by Hale, and written by Brendan Phibbs, titled: the other side of time, ( a combat surgeon in WW2)~ And his description of this particular battle is very strong and from a Doctors view quite murderous. Well worth the read it's not for the faint hearted, but, from all of us in the free world, thank you to all who lost their lives fighting the Nazis at Herrlisheim and everywhere else to bring us freedom.
