Greetings Ms. Newland

My father was a flight engineer on a B-29 out of Tinian during the latter portion of WW ll. He passed away in May of 2000. I am trying to find out the name and number of his airplane, and his squadron, etc. The only thing that I know for certain is that his airplane's radio call identification was "RU-1", and that either his base, or possibly another aircraft that his plane talked to, had the I.D. of " I M -1" ( He thought it funny that to call the other radio, they would say: " IM-1.. RU-1, over...")
If you say it out loud, it is amusing, I suppose. Anyway, I wonder if you have suggestions that may assist me in this?

Thanks, David Harbin dharbin55@yahoo.com

in the case of, brother, Capt. Eino Jenstrom, he was issued a new B-29 in the U.S., called it "Dark Eyes" for his wife.

Due to flight crews being ready, after their rest, and not enough aricraft , they flew whatever B-29 was ready. Thus, he happened to be the last crew to fly the Eddie Allen. It was damaged too badly, whcih led to the story geing written.

Dear Nick,
I read your inquiry about Henry Pisterza and I do have some information. He was a POW in Rangoon, his plane went down on 12/14/44. He was liberated in May 1945. I am in the process of writing about those POW's, they were incredible men. You Dad served with a really special group.

Dear Dean,
My Uncle was also a radio operator on a B29. He was on "Queenie" that was lost over Rangoon on Dec 14, l944. I have bee researching those planes and crews. He was with the 45th Squad. I have not seen your Uncle's name, but I will keep a lookout and if I do, or find anything more about the 45th I will let you know.
Sincerely, Jean Newland

Dear Norman,
What a brave and good man your Dad was. I know this because I am in the process of writing a book on the POWs that were in Rangoon. I see in all the research that I am doing what a dedicated and wonderful group of young men they all were. At the time your Dad was flying the B29 they had a lot of problems that those young man solved and worked around. My Uncle was in that camp, but I was lucky enough to have my Father returned from the Pacfic. I am so sorry for your loss.
